Needing a protein fix, it was time for my wife and I to try another barbecue place that we had been debating on for months. She had been here a while back, but I had never eaten here. In the past I would have come here without thought, but after our current food adventures have brought us to some really unique restaurants, this one didn’t seem too inviting. Since it’s rated #13 of 58 restaurants in McDonough, GA on TripAdvisor, and I’d hate to miss out on a local hot spot that’s so close to home. Continue reading O.B.’s Barbecue
Today we are eating at Radial Cafe. Touted as an environmentally friendly restaurant, they try to be as conscious about their carbon footprint as much as they are about the food. I liked the idea behind that, plus my wife was really interested in the fact they served gluten free pancakes. I was wary of the fact that it was rated on TripAdvisor as #592 of 1,374 restaurants in Atlanta (I later found it has two listings, the other calling it just Radial and ranking that one at #334), but I figured it was worth a try as the menu looked intriguing.
While my wife was in Atlanta recently, she had lunch at a barbecue place called Fox Brothers Barbecue. She texted me to rave about how amazing it was, so I checked out their menu online and was intrigued. She said she’d be willing to go back next time we were in the city. Two days later, here we are.
Fox Brothers Barbecue is a little off the beaten path, but we had no problem finding it with the GPS. The restaurant is made up of three separate areas. The main building where customers eat, the garage to the right where they keep their smokers and other cooking supplies, and a set of temporary storage units that I was told are holding some materials after a tree had fallen on the main building during a recent storm. Located in the McDonough, GA square is a diner called Kirby G’s. Many people make the claim that they have some of the best burgers in the Atlanta area. When my wife and I were looking for a quick stop to eat dinner, we decided to give this McDonough hotspot that TripAdvisor currently rates #16 of 54 restaurants in McDonough a try. Continue reading Kirby G’s
8:40 a.m. Boma Breakfast
It was our last day at Disney. Today we would not be going into the actual parks, and needed to head home early in the afternoon so this will just include breakfast and lunch. All food eaten today would be at the resort hotels or Downtown Disney. On our last visit to Disney we ate at Boma, which is promoted as Flavors of Africa. It was an amazing buffet dinner with a lot of unique foods, including some “African” twists on more familiar foods. I was excited to try Boma for breakfast, especially after reading of their more than 45 items included in the buffet. I was curious to see how the “flavor of Africa” would be infused with breakfast foods.
Boma is located in the Jambo House, which is at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We got seated and I immediately went to work. Because this was a buffet, the reviews will be a little shorter and to the point. There would be a lot of individual items being consumed. 9:05 a.m. Breakfast at Kona Cafe
Breakfast this morning was at the Polynesian Resort. I had been looking forward to ordering another Disney favorite, Tonga Toast. Before the meal came out, the condiments were delivered. They consisted of butter, maple syrup, and a cold strawberry compote. Continue reading Trip Report: Disney World (April 2013, Day 3)
