Highland Bakery, Part 3

It’s been a while since I last visited Highland bakery in Atlanta. You can find reviews of my last two visits here: Part 1, Part 2. I had been dying to get back and try a meal I had on my first ever visit, before I started doing these reviews. During my last meal that I reported, I ordered a plate of French toast, but made mention of their Peanut Butter French Toast. I wasn’t completely in love with the peanut butter version when I first had it, due to the brown sugar butter that was served in lieu of maple syrup. When I learned that I could order regular maple syrup for both French toast plates, I was ready to give the peanut butter another shot. Continue reading Highland Bakery, Part 3

It’s time for another edition of City Cafe snacks, and this one is a feast. I picked up several treats from my favorite local bakery to bring home and eat. As this was a to-go order, I’ll get right down to business and show you my selections. After this run, I only have a few items from their case to try, other than the rotating cakes and pies that are constantly changing. Continue reading Comprehensive Review: City Cafe, Part 5

Broadway Diner Desserts

Located a couple blocks from the Fayetteville square in Georgia, a popular local restaurant is packed with diners every night of the week. At Broadway Diner, it’s not uncommon to see folks waiting outside for a seat, even in the middle of the week. Usually the wait isn’t any longer than twenty or thirty minutes, but that’s an indication of something. There must be something people find special about this place. After all, it is a diner, and people wait here like they would for the big chain restaurants.

Because of their exceptional gluten-free options, you will probably see a future review here on their meal options, but for today it’s just about the desserts.

Broadway Diner has a single dessert case that isn’t large at all. Fortunately, that doesn’t stop them from stuffing it with huge cakes and pies offering some of the most incredible flavors around. My wife and I stopped in after dinner to pick up a couple slices to bring home for dessert. Just like Frank’s at the Old Mill, the portions here are quite large, and to top it off, they’re only $5.95 a slice!

Comprehensive Review: City Cafe, Part 4

I recently made another stop at City Cafe while running errands. My wife and I stopped here on the way home to pick up some desserts to sample. Previously, I started this comprehensive review by enjoying a lunch, then I came back for some desserts, and then back again for another meal. I didn’t stay long enough on this stop to get any new information on the restaurant, so this will simply be a quick review of some treats we brought home to enjoy.

Toasted Marshmallow Chocolate Bar

A friend of mine was up in Concord, NC at the Great Wolf Lodge Resort. At some point during his trip he stumbled across a dessert from one of their dining venues that was so amazing, he couldn’t resist texting me a photo and telling me that he “met his match.” Knowing my love for unique and amazing foods, he purchased an extra one and brought it back for me to try.

Peanut Butter Pie & Nutella® Cheesecake

My wife and I often drive up to Brookhaven, GA to shop at Costco. Every time we go up there we pass a small café-looking place called Sugar Shack. If you know me, you know I can’t see a place with the word “sugar” right in their name, and not at least take a peak inside. On our last trip up there I finally got permission from my wife to stop the car and go in.

Sugar Shack is a café and bakery combo that has some display cases filled with unique and delicious looking desserts. Everything including pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies… you know what, let’s just call it the works. I wanted one of everything, but since my wife was waiting in the car, this would be just a quick grab-and-go stop to pick up a couple things to bring home.

Comprehensive Review: City Cafe, Part 2

For this brief second installment of the comprehensive City Cafe review, I will cover some treats I picked up after a late breakfast at Highland Bakery. You can read the first review here. City Cafe is open every day except Sunday. They have separate hours for the bakery and the restaurant, so check their hours before visiting. It’s all one room as shown before, the difference being whether the kitchen is open or not.

On this day they serve lunch between 11:00 am and 2:30 pm, and the bakery remains open until 4:00 pm. I arrived just thirty minutes before closing.

Highland Bakery, Part 2

Back in June I highlighted some bakery treats from Highland Bakery in Atlanta.

That was just a quick stop after lunch to sample a couple items. Today’s visit was to sit down and enjoy breakfast. It appears that since June, they have improved their rating on TripAdvisor from # 38 to # 28 of 3,353 Atlanta restaurants.

Comprehensive Review: City Cafe, Part 1

Since moving to the Fayetteville, GA area, I’ve had a couple opportunities to sample some treats from City Cafe. This cafe features German cuisine, and also embodies a fantastic bakery case. This will be my first comprehensive review of a restaurant. The plan is to eventually try everything available from their menu and bakery case, along with providing as much information about the location, owners, food, and atmosphere that I can. This will be a several month venture, but an enjoyable one. In order to not overwhelm you, I will spread the many smaller articles out, and intermix them with other reviews.
