The Real Chow Baby

This weekend I decided to go for a low cost, but filling lunch. My wife had once brought me to The Real Chow Baby, and I loved it. We decided to revisit the location we patronized last time, on Howell Mill Road in Atlanta. They also have a second location located on Ponce De Leon Avenue in Atlanta. TripAdvisor rates our location at #244 of 1,446, and the other at #800. The concept is Mongolian Barbecue, or Asian stir-fry, where you create your own meal and they cook it. Trip Report: Savannah, GA (June, 2013) Day 2: 12:00 p.m. Leopold’s Ice Cream

After a lunch at Zunzi’s, we decided to grab a treat at Leopold’s Ice Cream. This #2 rated spot on TripAdvisor (yes, it’s two spots higher than Zunzi’s) is another place that has lines that are many times out the door. I didn’t get a lot of photos inside, so next trip will be a more detailed review. Leopold’s has 24 regular flavors of ice cream and 22 additional seasonal flavors available at various times throughout the year. Trip Report: Savannah, GA (June, 2013) Day 2: 11:15 a.m. Zunzi’s

This morning started with breakfast at Henry’s, which was on the other side of the block from our hotel.

I didn’t bring my camera because after looking at their menu in our hotel room, there didn’t seem to be anything special worth photographing. It wasn’t until we got home that I regretted that decision. Not because the food was anything special, it wasn’t. I remembered my reasoning for these reviews, while they may be helpful to those of you reading, they’re really meant for me. They’re a way for me to keep a record of places I’ve been and foods I’ve eaten. This is useful for entertainment purposes looking back and seeing some great eats, but also to help me decide whether or not to go back to a place, and if I do, what might be a good or bad choice on what to order. Highland Bakery, Part 1

I will begin by asking that you please excuse the shoddy camera work. The photos taken here were done quickly, with the food shots taken in the car so the lighting and focus didn’t always work to my advantage.

After a disappointing meal at the Radial Cafe we decided to head down the street to Highland Bakery. Atlanta has three locations. I’ve been to the other one for breakfast, rated #176 of 1,378 restaurants in Atlanta on TripAdvisor, and loved it. The one we visited today is the original, and rated #38.

Trip Report: Disney World (April 2013, Day 4)

8:40 a.m. Boma Breakfast

It was our last day at Disney. Today we would not be going into the actual parks, and needed to head home early in the afternoon so this will just include breakfast and lunch. All food eaten today would be at the resort hotels or Downtown Disney. On our last visit to Disney we ate at Boma, which is promoted as Flavors of Africa. It was an amazing buffet dinner with a lot of unique foods, including some “African” twists on more familiar foods. I was excited to try Boma for breakfast, especially after reading of their more than 45 items included in the buffet. I was curious to see how the “flavor of Africa” would be infused with breakfast foods.

Boma is located in the Jambo House, which is at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We got seated and I immediately went to work. Because this was a buffet, the reviews will be a little shorter and to the point. There would be a lot of individual items being consumed. Trip Report: Disney World (April 2013, Day 3)

9:05 a.m. Breakfast at Kona Cafe

“Tonga Toast”

Breakfast this morning was at the Polynesian Resort. I had been looking forward to ordering another Disney favorite, Tonga Toast. Before the meal came out, the condiments were delivered. They consisted of butter, maple syrup, and a cold strawberry compote. Continue reading Trip Report: Disney World (April 2013, Day 3)

Trip Report: Disney World (April 2013, Day 1)

The Beginning:

DFB Cupcake

I have to begin by saying that this idea was inspired by a different website. I was introduced to Disney Food Blog run by AJ Wolfe in early 2013. As a “foodie,” or in medical terms, a food addict, I love to eat. Disney Food Blog (DFB) therefore had me mesmerized by the amazing eats available at Disney parks. Since I had an upcoming trip to Disney planned at the time for the Flower & Garden Festival, which this year included food kiosks, I decided to go all out and try every item from DFB that I felt was a “must try” item. The choices included everything she blogged about this year plus anything I found through the links within those blogs. In other words, my possible choices probably covered most everything mentioned in that website.

By the start of the trip my list of things I was wanting to try had grown to over 90 individual items. Most of them are small snacks such as the marble cupcake and Butterfinger cupcake shown in this photo, which I found here on DFB’s site. I had four days on the trip, with three in the parks and one outside the parks where I could still eat at Downtown Disney and the resorts. It was starting to look like this would be an ongoing venture attempting to try everything I wanted to eat at Disney.
