Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas has more than enough dining venues on board to keep any passenger very well fed throughout their cruise. I recently reviewed their highest level fine dining restaurant, Chef’s Table. But what if Chef’s Table’s limited availability has made it impossible for you to snag a reservation? What if you want a more intimate fine dining experience with your significant other, without fourteen other strangers at the the table? Or what if you just don’t want to drop another $170 per couple on a dinner when there are cheaper options, including numerous free venues across the ship? Assuming you still want that fine dining experience, but with just you and someone else (or several others if you have a group you want to dine with), there are plenty of options. Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas: Chef’s Table

Like most cruise ships today, Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas has many specialty dining options for a nominal fee. The most expensive of the 26 dining venues is the exclusive Chef’s Table at $85 per person. By the end of this review, you’ll hopefully see the bargain in this price and what it brings you. There is only one seating per night, and each seating can only accommodate 16 guests. That means that on each cruise, only 112 of the approximately 6,500 passengers get a chance to attend this unique dining experience. It’s important to lock in your reservation as early as possible if you’re interested in participating. Ruth’s Chris

Ruth’s Chris is a large, upscale chain of steakhouses with three locations in Atlanta. This weekend we visited the Centennial Park location, inside the Embassy Suites hotel. Valet parking is the norm in the city, and can be found at the front entrance of the hotel on Marietta Street. Parking is normally $14 for the first three hours, but with a validated ticket from the restaurant that number is cut in half. Continue reading Ruth’s Chris

Trip Report: Savannah, GA (June, 2013) Day 1: 6:00 p.m. The Olde Pink House

Dinner reservations for our first night in Savannah were made at The Olde Pink House. Considered by many to be one of the best restaurants in Savannah (#8 of 403 restaurants in the city on TripAdvisor), it was the one restaurant I had definite plans to visit before we even left for our trip. There is a lot of history to this 18th century mansion, which has been used as a home, a bank, headquarters for the Union General, and now a restaurant.

Located in Reynolds Square, parking can be found on local streets or in the garage at the square. Since I was staying at the Planter’s Inn next door, I walked. This building is also a popular stop on ghost tours, as the original owner, James Habersham supposedly hanged himself in the basement in 1799 and is said to roam around the house at times. The Melting Pot

For my third review, I wanted to go a step further than just the food, and move towards doing reviews on the entire restaurant. While this one may not go as far as I’d eventually like to get, it’s a move in the right direction.

I have visited the melting pot, a fondue restaurant, many times in the past. I probably eat here at least every quarter. I more recently started going to the Roswell, GA location and this will have been third time here. Continue reading The Melting Pot

Canoe: Part 1

Last February, my wife and I visited Canoe for Valentine’s Day dinner. Ever since, we’ve considered it one our favorite places tried in Atlanta. After a little over a year we decided to return. Some of the dishes will be repeats from last time, others will be new to us.

We split all the appetizers and desserts between the two of us, and ordered our own entrées. The first appetizer was a repeat from last time, and was definitely worth the second try. It was Canoe’s House Smoked Salmon on a crispy potato cake with Vermont goat’s cheese. Continue reading Canoe: Part 1
